27th December 2009 - Central Gurdwara Manchester Newsletter December 2009 - Washroom Complete and Future Plans

Guru Roop Sadh Sangat Ji,

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

With 2009 coming to an end and 2010 beginning, we would like to wish you all Nave Saal 2010 Di Lakh Lakh Vaddhian.

Reflecting on 2009, we would also like to thank the entire Sadh Sangat of Manchester for their continued dedication, devotion, support and most of all their generous donations to their Gurdwara Sahib, Central Gurdwara Manchester.

The Washroom project is now complete. From what at first seemed only a distant dream to what is now a state of the art Washroom, this project was only possible due to the kind and passionate Sadh Sangat. May Waheguru continue to bless you all forever.

If you have not been to Central Gurdwara recently then please do come along and see the toilets for yourself and let us have your feedback. All feedback is always welcome on any aspect of the Gurdwara.

Full accounts of the washroom project will be available in the New Year on the website and Gurdwara Noticeboard for all to see.

Yesterday we held an EGM at Central Gurdwara to finally put to rest many old long standing issues. We would like to thank all the members for attending and supporting the various resolutions and helping us to move forward. It is so important to attend any EGM's and the yearly AGM. This is where you can voice your opinion and make a difference. We urge all members of the Sadh Sangat to become a member and help steer the Gurdwara in a forward direction always. Membership forms are available from all committee members.

As you all know the Gurdwara has many fixed expenses being the Mortgage, Gianni's Wages, Gas, Electric, Water, Insurances but has to rely solely on donations and programme bookings (Anand Karaj, Akhand Path, Langar bookings etc.) as its income stream to balance the books. 2010 needs to be the year where we build up our income stream with a clear and concise plan to pay of the Gurdwara mortgage. To help with that plan I enclose a Standing Order Form. Our three main pillars are Naam Japo, Kirat Karo and then Wand kay Shako. Out of our monthly earnings, lets all donate whatever we can regularly by Standing Order to improve our Gurdwara Sahib and make it a place where not only us, but our future generations will be proud of. Regular Standing Order's provide the monthly security the Gurdwara Sahib needs to ensure it can meet its monthly commitments as above.

Also in 2010 we plan to start and complete the next main project being the leaking Gurdwara roof and a new suspended ceiling. Once again we want to make this a project we can be all proud of. The provisional plan for the schedule of this project is to obtain quotations in January, start fundraising in January, finalise quotations in February, start work in February/March and hopefully complete work by April Vaisakhi. This is all a very provisional timetable but its a plan and without a plan and vision, you have nothing.

Also its been a while since we have had a family trip out. The last one was 2007 when many of us went to Camelot. It started originally as one coach and before we knew it, we filled 2 coaches fully. So hopefully we shall try to ensure another trip is planned for Spring / Summer. Possible destinations include Maharaja Duleep Singh Ji's burial site in Elveden Church, Bury St Edmonds (near Cambridge). Another possible destination is Alton Towers. Once again we welcome all suggestions from the Sadh Sangat.

You can catch up with all previous newsletters here on our website and so much more including our new online calendar available on the Home Page.

http://centralgurdwara.org/wiki/Newsletters

So on that note, once again we wish you all a Very Happy & Prosperous 2010 and pray that Waheguru keeps all of us in Chardi Kala forever.

The Gurdwara website has been revamped with all the pages now accessible through the left menu. A new page http://centralgurdwara.org/wiki/Langar has been started. This now contains a Calendar containing all the Langar Bookings, Educational Visits, Religious Bookings, Sangrand & all Gurpurabs. We are very excited by this new Calendar, as at a glance one can see exactly what is happening. This Calendar is also on the HOME PAGE www.centralgurdwara.org where there is also a list of available Saturdays to book Langar Sewa.

We are pleased to announce that Bhai Hari Singh will be joining us next week in an official capacity of Langri. This is an exciting development as many of us find booking and cooking Langar a very daunting process. This way we shall have a professional cook to help any individual or family to prepare Langar, thereby taking out any fear we may have with the whole Langar Sewa process. We encourage all the Sadh Sangat to look at the Langar Page on the website and book Langar Sewa in advance.

As you are aware, when our new Ragi Jatha, Bhai Shanbir Singh Ji and Bhai Harwinder Singh Ji arrived, they were not accompanied their tabla player Bhai Maninder Singh Ji, as he had a nasty accident the day before coming. We are pleased to announce he has now recovered and arrived from India on Tuesday and has settled in his role at Gurdwara. Please do come to Gurdwara and welcome him.

NEW PAGE - BUSINESS DIRECTORY - We started a new web page on the Gurdwara website where the Sadh Sangat can benefit from a Business Directory. The idea of this is to make us all aware of members of our community that operate various different business services. This will save us all going through the Yellow pages on a hit and miss basis. If you operate any business here in Manchester, please follow the instructions on the Link below and we shall endeavour to put your listing up on the website without delay.

http://centralgurdwara.org/wiki/Sikh_Business_Directory

We have a resource page on our website called "Sikh History / Knowledge". The hope is that this becomes an invaluable resource. I was sent an article recently by Subash Anand on Amritsar. It has been uploaded onto the following page. Lets build this resource up collectively. If anyone has any articles on Sikh History / Knowledge, please do forward them to me and I will create the page and get it uploaded. This will be of benefit to us, our kids and all other faiths.

http://centralgurdwara.org/wiki/Category:Sikh_History

Here you can catch up with all the latest happenings at Central Gurdwara. You will see the many educational visits that take place also. These are of the utmost importance for the wider community to learn about us, who we are and what we stand for. This enables our children to settle in their schools with better racial tolerance. We cater for visits from Schools, Colleges, Police and Trainee Teachers. For these sewadaars are required to come and join us to take the Gurdwara Sahib to the next level.

http://centralgurdwara.org/wiki/Educational_Visits

There are many more pages also on the website accessible from the left menu. Please take the time to look through and enjoy the resources provided.

Lastly, but most importantly, please forward this email to all your friends and family and ask them to register their email address at www.centralgurdwara.org, so that they will always be kept informed of all the happenings at Central Gurdwara Manchester and furthermore we can all continue to strive to serve the Sadh Sangat of the North West of England.

On the next page the Sadh Sangat can help the Gurdwara Sahib to continue to prosper. Central Gurdwara is fortunate to have such a kind and passionate congregation (Sadh Sangat Ji). Together we hope to continue to enjoy kirtan of the highest calibre. However, we need to try and do something about the Diwan Hall Ceiling and the Toilet Facilities. Through a shortage of funds the Gurdwara has been unable to complete the work. It really needs your support, please donate (generously).

8th June 2009

Guru Roop Sadh Sangat Ji,

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

I trust you are all in Chardi Kala. I am sending this email to inform the Sadh Sangat of the latest happenings at Central Gurdwara.

Firstly we would like to say a big thank you to all the Sewadaars who spared their valuable time and attended the Gurdwara Sahib yesterday (Sunday 7th June) for a day of "Kar Sewa". Big progress was made on the new multi purpose room upstairs and also clearing out many old items no longer needed that were cluttering up the Gurdwara Sahib. I would like to propose that we hold a "Kar Sewa" day every last Sunday of the Month to give the entire Gurdwara Sahib a good clean (Diwan Hall's, Langar Hall, Kitchen, Entrance Hall's etc). This will also bring the Sadh Sangat closer together and promote the many values of Sikhi. We will need to ensure that it does not coincide or clash with any bookings for Anand Karaj at the Gurdwara Sahib, so I will email you all nearer the time, each month and also have this announced in the main Saturday Diwan beforehand.

Progress on the new Toilet Facilities continues and we are now in the final stages of planning and costings. Again we shall keep you informed when we get to the next stage, being fund raising and collection of the required funds to see this long overdue project through from conception to completion.

I am enclosing a poster of Surjit Singh Khalsa Ji which is the next main event we are working on. In the current climate, many of us are suffering from stress and tension, which in turn can affect our health and quality of life. Surjit Ji is very well respected in the Far East and we will be honoured if he can attend our Gurdwara Sahib for the day. The hope is to have him with us on Saturday 20th June at 3.30pm to 6.30pm. As soon this is arranged, I shall email all the Sadh Sangat with further details, but please do pencil in this date provisionally for now as I am a firm believer in supporting our community for all related activities wherever and however possible. Please see the attached poster enclosed with this email.

The 3 day Kirtan Samagam held at the Gurdwara Sahib last weekend was very well attended and we offer our gratitude to Waheguru Ji for the success of the programme. Bhai Niranjan Singh Ji performed Gurbani Kirtan on Friday, followed by Sant Anoop Singh Ji on Saturday. On Sunday Sant Annop Singh Ji involved all the Sadh Sangat and we all recited Sukhmani Sahib Paath together. It was the first time Sant Ji had done this in the UK and it was thoroughly appreciated by all the Sadh Sangat. This was also televised by the Sikh Channel (SKY Channel 840). All these recordings are available as always to listen to or download from www.centralgurdwara.org.

Sant Anoop Singh Ji is attending many programmes in the UK and these will finally end at Havelock Road Gurdwara Southall with a Mahan Gurmat Samagam on 13th /14th June. This is all being done for World Blood Donor Day. This Samagam will be attended by WHO, NHS, Red Cross and many more internationally renowned charities. Blood Donor Forms have now arrived at Gurdwara Sahib and Sant Ji has asked me to inform all the Sadh Sangat of this and requests that you all collect a form and fill it in asap.

The Saturday Kirtan classes started again on Saturday 9th May 2009 at 4.30pm. Our very talented Hazoori Ragi Jatha (Bhai Harpreet Singh Ji Preet) is teaching Waja and Kirtan and our Tabal Chi (Bhai Gurpreet Singh Ji Preet) teaches tabla. All we ask you to bring is a notebook and pen to make a note of the Shabads and notation. These are in addition to Friday's Gurmat and Kirtan Classes.

I have been asked to let all the Sadh Sangat know that you no longer need to go to London or Birmingham to obtain a Visa for travel to India. A Visa Application Centre has now opened up in Manchester as per the details below.

INDIAN VISA APPLICATION CENTRE, MANCHESTER

The High Commission of India, London and its Consulates in Birmingham and Edinburgh have out sourced the visa services to VF Services UK Ltd. (VFS).

The day was superbly attended and the feedback from the police regarding the conduct of the Sangat was impeccable. It is at community events like this, we need to be united and at our strongest to show the population that we are fun loving, peaceful people who have integrated well and contributed so much to the British society and yet have not lost any of our values. A very big well done all. Ofcourse there are always issues and area to improve, so if anyone does have any feedback, please do email me and I shall forward it on to the organising committee.

Guru Roop Sadh Sangat Ji,

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

I am very pleased to announce that after nearly two months in waiting, Central Gurdwara Sahib has now been granted a sponsor licence from the UK Border Agency. This took much time and many meetings and needed all our paperwork to be in order and organised.

We are very grateful to Waheguru Ji for this very successful outcome which means we can now sponsor Ragi Jatha's from India.

We will now work on bringing in our new Hazoori Ragi Jatha straight away and hope they will be with us very shortly.

May Waheguru continue to bless us all.

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

Guru Roop Sadh Sangat Ji,

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

I am sending this email out to inform the Sadh Sangat of the latest happenings at Central Gurdwara.

As you are all aware our resident Ragi Jatha (Bhai Shanbir Singh Ji, Bhai Harvinder Singh Ji and Bhai Nirapjit Singh Ji) returned to India on the 15th of February 2009.

The home office has now changed the rules for bringing Ragi's and Granthi's from India, to the UK. The Gurdwara Sahib needs to apply for and hold a Licence in order to bring in a new Jatha. This only came into Law last November and communication from the home office to this effect was non existent at the time.

Once we came to know of this new legislation in December, we applied for the Licence immediately and have subsequently had a number of meetings with the Home Office. After continued chasing up we have now been informed it can take upto 12 weeks to be granted a licence.

Until we are in possession of this licence, we cannot sponsor a new Ragi Jatha. I have a great Jatha in mind and as soon as we receive this licence, we will arrange the sponsorship papers to be sent and have the new Jatha with us as soon as possible. I am very excited about this and look forward to them being with us as soon as possible.

In the meantime sewadaars are always at the Gurdwara for the day to day running and Langar is being served daily, so please do support your Gurdwara during this transition period and help out wherever you can daily at the Gurdwara.

All the main Gurdwara programmes are now recorded and uploaded to our website and are available to listen online streaming or download. As well as this you can also see all the latest forthcoming programmes and much more at www.centralgurdwara.org.

Lastly, but most importantly, please forward this email to all your friends and ask them to register their email address at www.centralgurdwara.org, so that they will always be kept informed of all the happenings at Central Gurdwara Manchester and furthermore we can all continue to strive to serve the Sadh Sangat of the North West of England.

May Waheguru continue to bless us all.

Guru Roop Sadh Sangat Ji,

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

I am sending this email out to inform the Sadh Sangat of the latest happenings at Central Gurdwara.

This Saturday is Sri Guru Har Rai Ji's Parkash Gurpurab. In addition to our usual Saturday evening diwan, the Gurdwara Sahib will be holding Sampooran Asa Di Var at 9am morning this coming Saturday 31st January. It is hoped that all the Sadh Sangat will attend to encourage the Gurdwara to ensure that Sampooran Asa Di Var can be held every month as a minimum. Furthermore, this will be the last Asa Di Var by Bhai Shanbir Ji and Jatha (see below). So please do make the effort to attend and celebrate Sri Guru Har Rai Ji's Parkash Gurpurab.

Our resident Ragi Jatha (Bhai Shanbir Singh Ji, Bhai Harwinder Singh Ji and Bhai Nirapjit Singh Ji) will soon be going back to India. Their last day with us is Saturday 14th February 2009. They have done tremendous good SEWA at our Gurdwara during their stay and are very respected by the entire Sadh Sangat of Manchester. Please come to Gurdwara on all programmes between now and then to give support this excellent Jatha who we are all very grateful to.

Giani Harinder Singh Ji (Alwar Wale), who is an incredible much respected Katha Vachak, will be coming to Central Gurdwara on Friday 6th and Saturday 7th February to perform Katha Gurbani Vichaar. This is a once in a lifetime event so again all the Sadh Sangat are requested to attend.

Bhai Nirapjit Singh Ji has asked me to let the Sadh Sangat know that he will be selling his Tabla before going back to India. If anyone would like to purchase his Tabla, then they can contact him at Gurdwara on 0161 832 2241.

Work is continuing with the planning of the new toilets at your Gurdwara Sahib. Our initial plans have run into some difficulty but we are now working on a more ambitious plan. Details will follow once we progress further and plans will be posted on our noticeboard at the main entrance.

All the main Gurdwara programmes are now recorded and uploaded to our website and are available to listen online streaming or download. As well as this you can also see all the latest forthcoming programmes and much more at www.centralgurdwara.org.
